Sunday, February 28, Canvas Underground's throwing dinner in a foreclosed Victorian in West Oakland, with a menu featuring the season's best produce from local organic farms.

Your attendance will support Agrariana’s Spring 2010 programming including a series of authors’ readings and ‘grandmother’ workshops and a campaign to establish a permanent, annual Bay Area Food and Farming Film Festival.  

Agrariana, the Society for Agriculture and Food Ecology, was founded in the shadow of UC Berkeley’s Hilgard Hall, emblazoned with the mantra "To Rescue for Human Society the Native Values of Rural Life."  Agrariana’s mission is to encourage all Americans, urban or rural, rich or poor, to become agrarians.     

Agrariana has hosted events with a multitude of the Bay Areas most dynamic farmers and food artisans, as well as leaders in the sustainable food movement including Michael Pollan, The Next Iron Chef contestant Nate Appleman, intensive gardening method pioneer Jon Jeavons, GRUB author Anne Lappe, rancher and author Nicolette Hahn Niman, Wild Fermentation author Sandor Katz, and Slow Food Nation Director Anya Fernald.  Past programs have included working tours of Soul Food Farm and Clark Summit Farm, a Food and Farming Film Series, Women in Sustainable Agriculture panels, and skills workshops for making sauerkraut, mead, ketchup, and leather.  Agrariana’s mission has been featured in The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Ethicurean.com, Treehugger.com, and on NPR.
